Our small town adventure

Never thought we would find ourselves hanging out in a town of less than 3,000, but Mother’s Day weekend we did just that. We visited Chatfield, MN. It is about an hour and a half away from the Twin Cities.

Our first explore MN trip of 2021 landed us doing archery and staying at a bed and breakfast. We were out of our element, but it was a good time. If you are directionally challenged like me you won’t have to worry about getting lost. Main Street is the MAIN street. For the most part everything to see and do is right on one road.

We had our first experience in archery at Magnum Sports. It’s easily addicting especially if you are slightly competitive. We got better over time while practicing and look forward to trying it again.

Now let’s talk about the B&B. If you want to relax this is the perfect place for you. I haven’t mastered that much relaxation yet. I like to try new things, but I like to be out and about and more than anything I still enjoy my personal space. While I knew what a bed and breakfast was, I do think I was mentally prepared for a big Air BNB shared with strangers. That’s pretty much how it feels. Lucky for us there were no other guests there while we were. Despite our level of comfort the hosts of Oakenwald Terrace B&B were great.

The open areas found in the various parks were enjoyable. Sometimes you have to step away from city life and appreciate the openness that small towns have to offer. There were tons of trails and parks. All the greenery was beautiful.

What else can you find in Chatfield? There are a few restaurants. Jacs is the neighborhood hot spot. In my opinion the pizza is the best option. There are also a few gift shops, pubs, and small stores.

I can’t say we would be back to Chatfield for an overnight stay, but exploring another small town is definitely a possibility in the near future.
